Because of this game, there is somebody, somewhere, who is convinced that his newly purchased copy of Abbey Road is defective, because "Her Majesty" cuts off abruptly just before the last note. |

It is my conclusion that the difference between an adult at a theme park and a child at a theme park is that the child wants to always get his way but will have his hopes quickly dashed, while the adult wants to always get his way and will stubbornly keep trying to get it even when he is told he cannot.

Whoa, been a while since I posted.
It's no secret that I'm not a particular fan of the "Mac vs. PC" commercials. They didn't take long at all to descend into stupidity and misleading claims, where they've pretty much stayed ever since. But there's one, which can be seen here, that features PC traveling to the future to find out if PCs are any better in the future (of course, since this is a Mac commercial, they aren't). And I think it's pretty funny, although certainly not for the reasons that were intended.
Well, first of all, there's the fact that the whole time travel excursion ends up being not worth the trouble. In addition to me just liking that concept in general, the total lack of a line that's even close to "I time-traveled for this?" confirms that nobody I know worked on this commercial, and I can thus safely say whatever I want about those brain-damaged morons who apparently are so lacking in morals that the thought of tricking innocent victims into wasting their money on worthless garbage has them grinning devilishly. If you took that seriously, you're an idiot.
More importantly, Fridge Logic [ TVTropes link] turns it into basically a stealth anti-Mac commercial. Consider that one of PC's "problems" is that PCs have... error messages. At all. With no qualifiers regarding the nature of these messages. And the implication that Macs lack all problems that PCs have. Yeah, um, if I try to save to a hard drive and there's not enough space, I kinda want an error message about that. I'd really rather not have the computer just quietly do nothing and not tell me anything.
For that matter, Apple's depiction of the future of computers is just plain old Mac and PC, the same guys we've seen in every commercial, only now they're wearing ugly outfits that are presumably supposed to look "futuristic." And we know from other commercials that Apple is perfectly capable of hiring additional actors for these things, so this must have been an intentional choice. PC, on the other hand, expects there to be massive improvements in the future, but Apple "knows" he's wrong. Really? Well, that sure sounds like a company that knows what it's doing!
Of course, all that pales in comparison to the fact that PC BUILT A WORKING TIME MACHINE. |

So apparently the fans of Lil' Formers have declared war on Shortpacked!, which in response has declared war on Lil' Formers itself.
You know what would suck? If someone was a fan of both comics and now got to watch fellow fans of each snipe at the other for however long webcomic feuds last (we aren't sure how long this is, since none of them have ended yet). |

| I wish I'd realized this back when it was relevant. |
[Dec. 17th, 2008|02:18 pm] |
When Shadow the Hedgehog was an upcoming new game, I asked of people why they were complaining that it was terrible for the titular hedgehog to use a gun. In the somewhat condescending manner usually characteristic of people complaining about upcoming Sonic games, I was informed that it is always out of character for someone who had loved ones killed by a gun to himself use a gun. (A bunch of other things were said, but this is the one that's relevant.)
I said in response that the character in question might not, in fact, immediately fixate on the idea that guns are Always Chaotic Evil devices to be avoided at all costs, and that he might actually find their use to be appropriate as a form of poetic justice if he finds occasion to use them against the people responsible for the initial death. I stated that, while Bruce Wayne's reaction to his parents' shooting is certainly plausible, it is not the only possible reaction.
I was then variously informed that this thought of mine was idiotic and totally implausible and clearly the only reason I could possibly stretch their suspension of disbelief so far was because I was either the stupid fanslave who blindly accepts everything Sega does or the evil Internet monster who blindly disagrees with everything he perceives to be a majority opinion. (To this day, there doesn't seem to be a consensus on which. Encyclopedia Dramatica subscribes to the latter belief, but since it also believes the core cast of Pretty Cure are of single-digit ages, I think its Andrusi-related opinions can be safely disregarded.)
What I just realized is that, after Shadow's use of guns was revealed, but before the game was actually released, Batman Begins came out, and everyone loved it. Anyone remember that movie well enough to see the connection? |

I know there are people on my friends list who favored McCain for the presidency, and out of respect for them, I'll refrain from saying some of the things that have come to mind.
I'm sure they won't begrudge me saying I'm happy with Obama's victory, though.
UPDATE: Or with North Carolina's electoral votes going to a Democrat for the first time since Carter. |

[Oct. 26th, 2008|08:55 pm] |
I'm excited to be posting this from the family's recently acquired Windows 2000 Dell. Is that sad?
I guess I should recap. My computer (mission-space, a Gateway from 2002, running on XP) recently had its motherboard fail. My mother's workplace was getting rid of some computers, and she managed to claim this one (Horizons) for me to use. I took the opportunity, though, to finally get myself a new computer (SpaceshipEarth, a very shiny Vista-based Dell), which arrived a few days ago. I spent some time the last few days transferring files over to my new computer and clearing out this one's hard drives (the 40GB one that came with it, and the 80GB one from my Gateway), and now I've finally hooked it up to the cable modem.
For my next trick, Dad's planning to obtain a wireless router, which I will set up, finally giving us consistent DS and Wii Internet as well as allowing SpaceshipEarth to get online. (I'm trying to decide what to call the network. Monorail? Communicore?)
I know you all totally care. |

Putting down "a (good) (political group)," "God," or some other soapboxy skewering of this question is not clever, it's just stupid.
...but seriously, I'm a fan of the yeti. And aliens, but they're not really what the question is about.
Gordy will always hold a special place in my heart, but I don't think fictional cryptids count. |

So apparently I've been neglecting my friends list lately. I'm not even going to try to figure out how far back I need to go to catch up on everyone, so if I ask anyone stupid questions in the near future, consider this a preemptive apology. |

The files Shinsen-Raws produces are absurdly large. I am going to have to split 5GoGo episode 32 into pieces in order to move it to the computer where I can watch it, because it will not fit on a single CD. To say nothing of how badly said computer will choke on it when I try to watch.
I can't be the only one who thinks this might be a little bit excessive and would like to know where he can find more sane versions of episodes. |

So how this works is, I list characters I roleplay, and people get to ask them questions and they answer in character.

I was going to post about this in a timely manner, but then I didn't. For those of you who haven't already heard some other way, I've finally relaunched my sprite comic, Mega Geable.
And for those of you who are wondering: Yes, SWC will be updated soon too. |
